Doing my market in groceries
I happen to live in North EDSA area in Quezon City.Long before, there are only 2 known supermarkets in our neighborhood - Thriftway (EDSA Balintawak) and Hi-top (Quezon Avenue).
Now, there are lots to choose from: SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket, SM Save More, Landmark Grocery in Trinoma, Parco Supermarket and Hi-Top along Quezon Avenue, Waltermart near Muñoz, Robinsons Supermarket and Cherry Foodarama along Congressional Avenue.
Who's got the best offer?
1. Establishment: SM Supermarket
Location : Main Building of SM City North EDSA
Strong points : Accessible since it is easily found near the north entrance of the mall, Complete line of products. From meat, dry goods, canned foods and even imported goodies.
Disadvantages : Very crowded. Even when the management added more counters, still not enough to serve its customers.
Value added offers : Very near FX shuttles bound for Nova area. Also near the newly diverted Bus bays for north bound customers.
2. Establishment: SM Hypermarket at The Block
Location : Lower level, The Block of SM City North EDSA
Strong points : It is like grocery and department store in one concept.Enough payment counters available. Offering good freebies. Lots of food stalls available.
Disadvantages : Even with enough counters to pay, during weekends it is like a long line getting your NBI clearance from QC Hall.
Value added offers : You can bring your push carts up to the 6th level of the covered car park building.
3. Establishment: The Landmark Supermarket
Location : Lower level, Main Building of Ayala Trinoma,North EDSA
Strong points : Accessible since it is easily found near the north entrance of the Landmark Department Store. Lots of items to choose from that are not available at SM Supermarkets. The best in product displays and gives impression that items are in fresh state always.
Disadvantages : Quite limited product lines.
Value added offers : The grocery also allows push carts to brought to your parking area. It also provides access to the driveway for convenience. Very near the food court area to make shopping and dining in one stop.
4. Establishment: Robinson's Supermarket
Location : Lower level, Circle C Mall in Congressional Avenue, QC
Strong points : It is like a bigger 711. Which means small but organized mini supermarket. Short queues. With pharmacy inside.
Disadvantages : Not the ideal shop to buy your whole things for the week. unless you bought already something from other stores.
Value added offers : It is located in a mall in QC that is considered nowadays as small Greenhills of QC where you can buy pirated DVDs, PSP games, Tiangge all year round and has a regular sunday mass on the 3rd floor.
5. Establishment: Cherry Foodarama
Location : Congressional Avenue, QC
Strong points : A stand alone supermarket that offers the same old Cherry Foodarama we knew back from the 80's. Offers a wide variety of products that are usually present in some major supermarkets but the prices are slighlty lower.
Disadvantages : Rest rooms are located outside the building and poorly maintained. Does not offer loyalty programs.
Value added offers : No parking fees since they offer an open parking area around the building. It is a good alternative shop for some who doe not want to go to big shops and purely sunday supermarket activity.
6. Establishment: Waltermart North EDSA
Location : EDSA near Munoz, QC
Strong points : Another chain of Waltermart that offers supermarket and shopping mall in one. Boneless Bangus is the one thing i definitely appreciate in this establishment. They offer Php120 a kilo for a boneless bangus and Php95 for the regular tilapia which is almost the same price in the nearest public market. Well maintained displays. Offers a loyalty program. And they also have this KUBO where you can buy cooking oil, vinegar, soy sauce etc in retailed packs. They also offer herbs and other dried fishes in retail or by the pound.
Disadvantages : Right now, the only disadvantage that i can think of is the limited perks of their loyalty program.
Value added offers :They offer free 3 hour parking for a minimum of Php500 worth of supermarket purchases. They also have this bills payment facility beside the customer service counter making your sunday errands easier.
